Street Closings & Special Events

The special event application is required for all parties requesting public assistance (i.e. police personnel) and/or the closure of a public street for any scheduled event of a non-emergency nature.
Street closures and special events are required to be approved by Harrisonburg City Council. Therefore, this form must be submitted at least 60 calendar days prior to the scheduled event. Please submit completed forms to Kim Kirk at Harrisonburg Downtown Renaissance, 212 South Main Street, Harrisonburg, VA 22801. Hand-delivered copies must be submitted between the hours of 9:00 AM and 5:00 PM, Monday through Friday, excluding any state or national holidays.
- Sponsors of special events must furnish an original Certificate of Insurance providing evidence of liability insurance of a minimum of $1,000,000 for death or bodily injury and property damage. It is required that the City of Harrisonburg be listed as an additional insured by endorsement.
- The insuring company must have a minimum financial rating from the A.M. Best Company of an "A" or better.
- Failure to produce a valid Certificate of Insurance naming the City of Harrisonburg as an additional insured in a timely manner will result in cancellation of the special event.
