Promotions Internships

Do you want to help create a more vibrant downtown?

Harrisonburg Downtown Renaissance (HDR) is seeking promotions interns who have a passion for design, marketing, and building a stronger community. This is the ideal opportunity for students to gain hands-on experience with a small non-profit, build a strong design portfolio, and engage with local businesses and community members.

HDR is a nonprofit organization dedicated to downtown revitalization. Founded in 2003, HDR is conveniently located in historic downtown Harrisonburg. At HDR, staff and interns work closely to promote the downtown district, create engaging events for the community, and provide support to downtown businesses.

HDR currently has promotions internship positions for fall, summer, and spring semesters:

Promotions Intern: Design and help distribute promotional materials for special events; assist the Promotions Manager and Promotions Committee in implementing the advertising campaigns; contribute writing, photography, graphic design elements, and/or video to the Do Downtown blog; and highlight events and businesses in the downtown district through social media. The focus of the internship can also be adapted to meet the individual interests and skills of the selected applicant, and a special semester-long project can be tailored to further provide experience and portfolio work.

Applicants should be self-motivated, fast learners, able to effectively manage multiple tasks, and willing to work as part of a team. The nonprofit environment is an exciting one of constantly shifting priorities, needs, and projects, so the ideal candidates will be adaptable, creative thinkers, and possess a strong dedication to the mission of the organization.

Internship hours are flexible and can be tailored to university departmental requirements and student schedules. While these internships are unpaid, academic credit can be arranged.
