Holiday Parade & Tree-Lighting Ceremony

The annual Holiday Parade, performance by the Marching Royal Dukes, and tree lighting ceremony will spread festive cheer in downtown Harrisonburg on Friday, December 7.

Join us downtown for the festivities:

  • 4:00 - 6:00 p.m.
    Classic Carriage will be offering carriage rides throughout downtown. They will begin in front of the Massanutten Regional Library and will loop around downtown Harrisonburg, providing a unique view of the historic district. Tickets are $5 for adults and $3 for children (ages 4-7). Children 3 and under are free. 

  • 7:00 p.m. 
    Holiday parade down Main Street. This year's theme is "Rocktown Rockin' Holiday".

    Harrisonburg Downtown Renaissance staff, volunteers, and committee members will march with downtown retailers and restaurant staff to showcase the eclectic community and businesses that form downtown Harrisonburg.

  • Following the Parade
    Mayor Richard Baugh will host a tree lighting ceremony in Court Square, followed by a holiday concert performed by the JMU Marching Royal Dukes.


City Streets Closed for the Holiday Parade:

  • Main Street from Cantrell Avenue to Gay Street will be closed starting at 5:00 pm
  • Court Square will be closing at 5:00 pm
  • Eastbound lanes of Cantrell Avenue from Main to High Street will be closed at 5:30 pm
  • The left lane of Liberty Street from Bruce to South Main Street will be closed at 5:00 pm

Recommended detour streets are Grace to High Street and Mason Street.
