We’re Giving Away $4,000 in Downtown Dollars This Week!

The snow has melted and we are celebrating with showing downtown businesses some extra love. Love Local Week is happening across downtown Friday, February 20 - Sunday, March 1, 2026. Show up for locally owned businesses by coming out after a particularly challenging couple of weeks, and you can come away a big winner!

To help reinvigorate our downtown economy, we are giving away $4,000 in Downtown Dollars in 10 days! Throughout the week, businesses and volunteers will be surprising people around downtown with $10-25 in Downtown Dollars to spend at a nearby destination. Follow us on Facebook and Instagram for giveaway updates throughout the week and to see what lucky downtownies have purchased with their spoils.

Additionally, customers who spend $25 or more at participating businesses can enter to win prizes from $50 Downtown Dollars to $1,000 Downtown Dollars!

How to Enter the Prize Drawings:

  1. Visit any of the participating businesses and make a purchase of at least $25.

  2. Ask for a contest entry slip at the register or from your waiter. Fill out your information (and remember to write legibly!)

  3. The week of March 2, HDR will draw winners for the following prizes -

    1. One $50 Downtown Dollars prize

    2. Five $100 Downtown Dollars prizes

    3. One $1,000 Downtown Dollars prize

  4. Customers can make as many purchases as they like from as many businesses as they like within the contest timeframe (Friday, February 20 - Sunday, March 1, 2026). 

  5. The winners will be selected, notified, and announced the first week of March through HDR’s official channels

JMU students, we have a special giveaway for you! JMU President Jim will be giving away $300 in Downtown Dollars on campus! Follow us on Instagram to follow along as we give away $10 and $25 certificates to our neighboring Dukes.

Do you currently have Downtown Dollars in hand? Remember that Downtown Dollars expire 12 months after the date on the certificate. This time of year is always slower for many small businesses, so please consider treating yourself to dinner or buying something special to give these businesses a much-needed boost over the next couple of weeks.
