Join Our Staff: Development Manager
Harrisonburg Downtown Renaissance, a nonprofit organization dedicated to the revitalization of downtown Harrisonburg, is seeking an experienced professional to lead our fund-raising efforts. You will have an opportunity to make a difference in Harrisonburg by helping to improve quality of life, create lasting memories, and boost community pride.
Are you the type of person who:
• Loves to be part of a collaborative team who brainstorms together and supports each other?
• Has excellent organizational skills and reliable follow-up?
• Doesn’t think any task is beneath you and is willing to get the job done?
• Is a “people-person,” who is genuinely interested in meeting people and connecting? You don’t rely on email but are happy to call and email supporters?
• Is a self-starter and motivated to achieve and exceed goals – not just to satisfy an employer but to satisfy your personal desire to achieve milestones?
• Enjoys jobs with a lot of variety and an office culture that gives team members a lot of creative freedom?
• Has been told you can sell ice in the winter?
• Thrives in a fast-paced environment while handling multiple projects and tasks simultaneously?
• Has at least five years of professional experience (and possibly experience fund-raising, or at least an enthusiastic interest in learning the business)?
If this sounds like you, we’d like to talk!
Join Our Board
When we have vacancies on our board of directors, we solicit applications for empty seats in the fall with the goal to conduct interviews in October and have a slate of candidates for a vote before the end of the calendar year. New board member orientation is in January or February. Board members can serve up to three three-year terms. Our ideal board has a wide representation of skills, perspectives and expertise and can represent a variety of segments of our community. Some seats are reserved for certain positions (for example an accountant to serve as treasurer and a lawyer for legal guidance) and sometimes we have specific skills we are seeking to help us with a particular initiative. We aim to have a diverse board full of people who care about downtown and who not only bring good ideas to the organization, they also help make them happen!
Join Our Internship Program
Are you interested in developing your marketing and social media portfolio for a future career? Have you always wanted to be an influencer? Excited about developing content that will be seen by thousands?
Each semester (Spring, Summer, and Fall), we hire 2-4 talented and creative interns who demonstrate a knack for writing, storytelling, research, and social media to help share what downtown has to offer.
Internship hours are flexible and can be tailored to university departmental requirements and individual student schedules. Internships may be paid or for-credit.
